FAQ: Virtual Domains/Hosting of Virtual Domains

  • What is virtual domain/website hosting?
If you were to put your website on the Internet (yoursite.com), it would be as expensive as:
    • Buying a server (a good server with RAID can go for about $10,000)
    • Learning how to use that server and configure it for a webserver
    • Buying routers, switches and other expensive networking equipment
    • Ordering hi-capacity communication lines to allow people to connect to your website. This involves monthly fees of thousands and installation fees of a few thousands more.
    • Paying at least one system administrator
    • And much more...
This amounts to a lot of money. But what if you could "rent" a server, communication lines and all that equipment. And just pay a small monthly fee?

That's what Sanders Hosting does. Your website will be "hosted" (placed) on our servers. We provide you with everything you need to put your website on the Internet for a small monthly fee. When people visit yoursite.com, they'll never know the website is being served from our servers. And, instead of spending thousands of dollars upfront and monthly, you just pay a minimum of $5.95 per month. Why so inexpensive? Because the same server and resources are shared by many other sites, which all together help pay for the expenses. Other sites do not interfere with yours in anyway, and your visitors will never see those other sites.

Don't worry about other sites slowing down yours. Servers like the ones we use can easily handle millions of visitors per day, and we never overload them.

  • How do I put my website's files on your servers?
Check out our FTP tutorial to learn how. You can also use FrontPage if you have it. Check our FrontPage tutorial.

  • Do I have access to update my site 24 hours a day?
Yes. You have access to your account 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

  • Can I resell space within my account/domain?
Yes, it's your website, so you can do anything you want with it (as long as it does not violate our policies).

You can have multiple user accounts or subdomains depending on the type of webhosting account you oder. Check our Compare page for more information.

Note: domains will *not* be pointed to directories within your account.

  • How much do you charge?
Check our Products page for more information.

  • Do you accept international orders?
Yes, we do, as long as you pay with a VISA/MasterCard via PayPal.

  • Do you provide technical support?
Yes, we provide 24/7 email tech support. Check the Support page for more information.

  • How long to set up a new account?
Once we recieve your payment via PayPal it will only take a few hours to get your account up and running. It will however take 2 to 3 days to get your domain name working (this is a limitation of the internet and not of Sanders Hosting).

  • Do you handle the domain registration process? Even transfer an existing one?
Yes, we do. We give free domain names with all of our account, you just need to let us know what available domain you want and we will register it for you. If you want a domain transferred from another webserver to ours, we can do that too. The Internic will send you a transfer authorization email, which you just need to reply with the necessary information. Make sure you read the instructions on the email they will send you. Check our FAQ on Domain transfers.

What is a "transfer" of a domain? If your website is hosted on "XYZ Hosting", this means that yoursite.com points to their servers. If you want it to point to your website on our server, a domain transfer needs to be done.

The transfer of a domain is "transparent" to visitors. Once the transfer is authorized, it will take between 24 and 72 hours for visitors to be sent to the new server (ours). This change is gradual. That is, in some parts of the world, yoursite.com's visitors will be sent to the old server, while others will be sent to ours. As time goes by, the change will take effect in the entire planet. This also means you can't take down your old site for at least a week, until the transfer spreads throughout the world.

  • How much will I be charged for a new domain?
You get one free domain name with every account we offer. If you are wanting to create an extra domain to point to your website (for instance if you have yoursite.com but want to register yoursite.net) you will be charged $15 per year.

  • How long for a new domain to be active?
After a new domain is registered, the new domain will take around 24 hours to become active and 24-72 hours for the new domain's info to spread throughout the world.

  • Can Sanders Hosting host non-U.S. domains?
Yes, we can. But you will have to take care of the domain registration or domain transfer. Just follow their respective procedures and point the domain to our DNS servers.

  • Can different domains point to the same website?
Yes, it can be done free of charge. Contact us to configure this.
